Discussion about the future at the Salone de Mobile: Werner Aisslinger is a guest at Rolf Benz

Nagold/Milan. In collaboration with Rolf Benz, the leading brand furniture manufacturer, the Berlin designer Werner Aisslinger has succeeded in creating a ground-breaking sofa. This seating, specially designed for the new “25hours hotel langstrasse” in  Zürich, combines both coworking and relaxation. At the Milan Furniture Fair in April, Werner Aisslinger sketched out the philosophy that lies hidden behind the design. The event was visited by international architects.

“Real place, real people” – these are the words that greet guests as they arrive at the new (second) “25hours hotel” in Zürich. There are now nine of these hotels in five major cities.  Each hotel is tailored to its location, offering not just bed and breakfast but great entertainment, which according to Werner Aisslinger is the concept of the future. “Hotels are once again becoming what they were a hundred years ago: meeting places used by both residents and locals, an exciting place for a party, somewhere to enjoy the café culture or any other social gathering.”
In this respect, particularly important areas – in the whole of the 21st century - are the lobby, the café and the bar. This is where the practice of informal coworking and public relaxation developed. “We need new furniture for these transitional spaces,” says Werner Aisslinger. “We need to be able to sit there and work, but we also need to be able to relax completely.” Together with Rolf Benz, Werner Aisslinger has created a piece of furniture that fits the bill: the “bench sofa”. In designing it, Aisslinger took his inspiration from the leather gym mats of the 1970s.
Just like the attractively worn gym mats from all those years ago, the seat and back sections of the bench are covered with robust brown leather. They stand on a light black metal frame, and can be used in the lobby and in the dining areas – in two sizes. “The collaboration with Werner Aisslinger  was characterised by tremendous loyalty and dedication,” says Jürgen Mauß,  CEO of Rolf Benz AG.  “With Rolf Benz Contract, we will continue to observe the latest developments in hotels and offices all over the world, and will be involved in shaping their future.”
